Frits Van Beelen: South Australia: He is currently in court challenging his conviction on the basis that evidence presented at his trial by discredited forensic pathologist Colin Manock about the time of death was wrong...." The Court of Criminal Appeal was told on Tuesday that Dr Manock made his estimate on the basis of the girl’s stomach contents and that couldn’t be reliably done in the early 1970s."

"Frits Van Beelen is appealing his conviction for the 1971 murder of 15-year-old Deborah Leach at Taperoo."

GIST: "Evidence  used to help convict a South Australian man of the murder of a teenage girl more than four decades ago was simply wrong, a court has been told. Frits Van Beelen has spent 17 years in prison for the murder of 15-year-old Deborah Leach, who was found buried in seaweed at Taperoo Beach in Adelaide in 1971. Released in 1990, Van Beelen is now seeking to challenge his conviction, arguing that evidence presented at his trial by forensic pathologist Colin Manock about the time of death was wrong."
