Bulletin: Roman Polanski: Poland Will Not Extradite Roman Polanski to US; "It appears Polanski can now pursue plans to begin filming a new drama about France’s Dreyfus Affair on location in Poland without fear of arrest or detention. Polanski, who admitted unlawful sex with a minor – statutory rape – fled the USA ahead of sentencing in 1978. The United States filed its extradition request in January. November 27: The prosecutor’s office in Krakow says the decision “to refuse to hand Roman Polanski over to U.S. authorities was justified”, ending the legal proceedings. He lives in France – which does not extradite its own citizens. He served 42 days in jail after a plea bargain. The victim in the case, Samantha Geimer, has previously said she believes Polanski’s long exile has been punishment enough for the crime."

The U.S. had been chasing the dual French/Polish Polanski for almost four decades, dating back to 1977 when he was charged with drugging and raping 13-year-old Samantha Geimer; Polanski was imprisoned for psychiatric evaluation but absconded before sentencing......Polanski felt “great relief” and “satisfaction”, his lawyer, Jan Olszewski, told The Associated Press after Friday’s decision.
