Bulletin Joseph Buffey: West Virginia. Kept in custody following today's hearing even though DNA points to another man as killer. Claims confession was coerced. Charleston Gazette.

STORY:  "Man in Clarksburg rape DNA case identified: Other man in prison for crime says he was coerced to confess," by reporter Zac Taylor, published inthe Charleston Gazette, on December 13, 2012.

GIST: "A man who defense  lawyers say matches DNA in the 2001 home invasion robbery and rape of an elderly Clarksburg woman has been identified. Lawyers for Joseph Buffey, the man who has spent more than a decade in prison for the crime, said Thursday morning that a recent database hit indicates that Adam D. Bowers' DNA was found at the scene of the woman's rape. Bowers, 27, is currently imprisoned in the Huttonsville Correctional Center on a 2011 unlawful assault charge. He also has a 2008 breaking and entering charge, in which he entered a woman's home, assaulted and robbed her, said Buffey's lawyer, Nina Morrison. Harrison County Judge Thomas Bedell today permitted Morrison to give the man's name, but postponed a ruling that would release Buffey from prison on bond. The judge wanted to allow prosecutors more time to respond to the new DNA database hit, according to Morrison."
